The opens with a young woman and the story of her current love life. However, she is sadly disappointed with its current status. It seems that her boyfriend appears a gentleman but is lacking that something special. He also has a hidden fear of commitment that is beginning to truly upset and hurt his long-time girlfriend. However, this young lady refuses to believe that this fact is true even though in her heart she knows it is. Therefore, she proceeds to Ireland to propose to him on a leap year. Ireland has a so-called famous tradition that a woman can propose to her boyfriend on leap year. So off to Ireland that young lady goes.
So, off she goes in an attempt to solve all of her problems. However, what she does not realize just yet is that all of her problems are just about to begin. Once she finally arrives in Ireland she is consistently faced with problem after problem. Luckily the young lady meets a nice young man who is able and willing to take her on the long journey ahead.
After the two have been forced to spend such a long period of time together they begin to form a quality friendship. This friendship started off on a rocky road because the two are so hard-headed neither one will ever back down. However, as they being to grow on each other they quickly realize that they could learn a lot from one another.
The young man turns out to be a good man who helped her through all of her struggles along the way. Without his help she never would have completed her long and treacherous journey. Throughout the time they spent together during their journey the young man is able to impart some wisdom upon this young woman. He is able to show her the true meaning of life.
