They were and still are cult movies that appeal to anyone with liberal views when it comes to drugs. Pot heads everywhere have waited for decades for Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin to work together again and now they have finally satisfied the fans. Hey Watch This is bound to appeal to new and old fans and lets hope the reaction inspires them to make another movie.
You would be forgiven for thinking that they may have lost their spark in all the years that have passed. You may be forgiven but you'd be wrong because the act is as entertaining now as any of their die hard fans will remember. Tommy Chong broached the subject of them not working together and his conclusion was they just got rich. He goes on to state that you can't get a rich Mexican to work and that's why they've done nothing together for so long.
Tommy's wife is a bit of a revelation as someone with good stage presence. Although we saw her in their older films she was not part of the title and so had less plaudits than she perhaps deserved. You will find that she could well have had her own successful career had she pursued it more.
When you see Tommy on stage it's easy to see where she gets it from because he has great comedy timing. There are some scenes that will blow you away whether you were a fan from years ago or you have just come across them. The hardest thing when trying to tell get across what is good about something like this is not giving away the jokes or stories.
Tommy tells of when he was jailed for nine months after he got caught selling bong pipes. His take on the court room is a mental picture that is hard to forget as are his views on the Bible. He gives his opinion on what was going on in the book of Genesis and the book of Exodus amongst others. They are views that can only have been forged through years of drug use.
Cheech we all know a little better these days as he has had much success working in many Hollywood blockbusters over the years. He is a very funny man on stage and just like Tommy, he has his own brand of comedy style. In this performance he plays through some of his old routines to huge applause and demonstrations of appreciation from the audience.
During the film there are lots and lots of things that are incredibly entertaining but when they are on stage together they are best. It's a travesty that they have been away from each other for all this time. We can only hope that they continue to work with each other more often maybe in a repeat of the stage show. San Antonio in Texas was the place where the show was performed but it would have filled venues all over the world for sure.
There is no doubt that they are both gifted comedians that have a connection with their fans. They are not going to be everyone's cup of tea because of their pro-drug views. But at the same time that's why they are so popular too. They have a unique appeal and can be considered the grandparents of controversial comedy.
