To many this type of art may be unrecognizable, but there has long been a debate that continues as to whether is actually expressionism. While an image in real life may be simply boring, that same image done in an abstract manner can be exciting and incredibly beautiful. Abstract landscape art is one form and it too may be hard to place a label on and categorize at times.
The main idea behind this particular type of painting is that the formal parts of the painting are as important as the qualities it is meant to represent. Due to the difficulty and debate of what is actually considered to be labeled as abstract, there are variations and degrees assigned. To whatever degree it is placed it this particular category, it is considered to be apart from reality.
A crude drawing of a particular hillside is not often the most exciting picture, but by adding colors and different texture it then becomes an altogether different image. This is meant to represent how formal qualities; the color being added, made a difference in the entire image; which is the drawing. This is a theory courtesy of Plato who believed that circles and colored lines were not only beautiful, but beautiful eternally.
According to Plato, an image does not need to be the exact representation of its reality. His belief was that non-natural images were to be considered as eternally beautiful. Included in this were most shapes like squares, circles, lines, etc.
The founder of French impressionism was Claude Monet and this was a new style of painting between the 1860's and 1870's. Camille Pissaro, Alfred Sisley and Monet were three that devoted their talent to painting landscapes. Their methods had much to do with the way that light played off of particular objects.
Monet most enjoyed painting in his own garden and began focusing on the painting of water lilies in 1899. Abstract art can be said as represented in its truest form or in variations of it by these types of paintings. Money remains one of the leading landscape painters in the history of Western art.
Berthe Morisot, Alfred Sisley and Monet organized the very first impressionist exhibition in Paris during 1874. During that time at the exhibition a noted art critic developed the term impression and labeled the entire new movement of their art. There are approximately two-hundred fifty oil paintings that were created by Monet during the final years of his life.
